Why Astrology, Considered Forbidden Knowledge, Remains Attractive to Many: Exploring the Reasons and Consequences
Why Do Many Still Use Astrology, Despite It Being Considered Forbidden Knowledge?
Despite the warnings from religious texts and the known dangers associated with it, astrology continues to have a strong following. Many turn to astrology in the desperate hope of determining the future and making more informed decisions. However, is it truly harmful, and why do individuals still seek such forbidden knowledge?
Astrology and the Future
People often turn to astrology when faced with critical decisions or uncertainties. They believe that understanding celestial influences can offer insights into their future, providing a sense of control over their lives. Unfortunately, the Bible specifically warns against such practices, as seen in a verse found in the Book of Ecclesiastes (Ecclesiastes 9:11): "The swift do not always win the race, nor do the mighty always win the battle, nor do the wise always have the food, nor do the intelligent always have the riches, nor do those with knowledge always have success, because time, unexpected events overtake them all."
The Urgency to Know
In moments of desperation, individuals seek any means to grasp the unknown. This is where astrology enters. The promise of obtaining answers to life’s most pressing questions can be too tempting for some. What the Bible teaches, however, is that our fate is largely determined by the choices we make and the way we play the cards we have been dealt. God stands ready to help us, providing guidance when we seek it (Isaiah 48:17–18).
Where to Find Spiritual Guidance
The Bible serves as a source of true guidance. It is inspired by God and is meant to be a compass for life (2 Timothy 3:16). It teaches us how to benefit ourselves and walk in the right path. Paying attention to God's commandments leads to a life of peace and success (Isaiah 48:17–18).
The Dangers of Astrology
Engaging in activities like astrology, which is often termed divination, can bring severe spiritual consequences. Astrology attempts to use supernatural means to predict the future, which brings one dangerously close to the spiritual realm where demons can influence one's life. Biblical texts such as Exodus 22:18, Leviticus 19:26, and Leviticus 20:27 explicitly forbid such practices. When individuals seek knowledge through astrology, they are, in essence, relying on entities that work against God's provisions for their lives.
A Personal Warning
This truth was reinforced for me when I was just 12 years old. My next-door neighbors had a sister who was heavily involved in astrology. Consequently, poltergeist activity occurred in their home for several months. Getting rid of the demons required the intervention of a priest and prolonged prayer. This experience highlighted the seriousness of engaging in practices that are considered forbidden.
In conclusion, while astrology may seem appealing in moments of desperation, it is fraught with spiritual dangers. The Bible offers true wisdom and guidance, and adhering to its teachings can protect us from potential harm (Ecclesiastes 9:11; Isa 48:17–18; 2 Tim 3:16).
