The Eternal and Infinite: Understanding Souls and Their Role in Population
Does the Number of Souls Keep Increasing Like the World's Population?
The concept of souls and their infinite nature is a topic of deep spiritual exploration. Many believe that the number of souls is not static but ever-evolving, correlating with the increasing human population. However, the reality, as many spiritual guides and religious texts suggest, is quite different.
1. The Illusion of Increasing Souls
From a spiritual perspective, the number of souls on earth is constant. Each soul, however, experiences a unique and limited time in the physical world. While some souls may inhabit the planet for thousands of years, others might only experience a brief lifeline of a single year. This cycle repeats ad infinitum.
The supreme incorporeal soul, Shiva, resides in the soul world along with all other souls. Souls have predetermined timings, akin to roles in a grand play, ensuring that no soul remains in the physical world for an indefinite period. This cyclical existence, known as the 'worldly drama,' aims to lead souls back to their divine origins.
2. The Spiritual Belief in Souls
For those who believe in the existence of individual souls, it logically follows that as the human population increases, the number of souls must also do so. However, this belief is often associated with a deeper understanding of spiritual realms and concepts that are not easily accessible to the average human being. Many, like myself, do not firmly believe in the concept of souls and thus find such questions unnecessary or puzzling.
In the Bhagavad Gita, it is emphasized that souls are eternal, infinite, and indestructible. Even when the body is slain, the soul remains unharmed. This idea is deeply rooted in the concept of spiritual immortality.
3. The Infinite Nature of Souls
Consider the vastness of the physical world. Every speck of dirt, every grain of sand, harbors countless microorganisms. The same analogy can be extended to souls. Every blade of grass, every drop of water, contributes to the infinite number of souls living on our planet. This infinite number is a reflection of the infinite knowledge and power attributed to Gods like Krishna in Hindu mythology. Krishna, who is described as having infinite knowledge, wisdom, wealth, and power, is indeed infinite in his essence and his attributes.
4. The Reality of Eternal Souls
It is crucial to understand that not everyone possesses the knowledge or capability to discuss or contemplate souls. This is because the concept of souls transcends the realm of ordinary human understanding. Therefore, one should not overthink about it but rather live a joyful life, spreading love and positivity wherever they can.
Bhagavad Gita 2.20 states, 'For the soul, there is never birth nor death. When he is in the body, he is unborn; when he leaves the body, he is not slain.' This verse emphasizes the eternal and unchanging nature of the soul. When the body dies, both body and soul perish, but the soul retains its essence.
5. The Scientific Perspective on Souls
From a scientific viewpoint, the verse can be interpreted through the lens of muscular contractions and tone. Isotonic contractions, which are energy-consuming and shorten the muscle, represent the physical body. Isometric contractions, which are muscular exertions without any change in length, symbolize the soul. Both isotonic and isometric contractions occur during both rest and activity, but isometric contractions are more relatable to the spiritual concept of eternal existence.
The text is about the properties of the seven-stage muscular system. 'Man' symbolizes ideas, and 'soul' refers to the soul of an idea. The eternal nature of the soul, in a scientific sense, means that the power of an idea can increase and decrease both at rest and during activity.
Conclusion
The concept of souls plays no role in population increase. The intrinsic nature of souls is cyclical and eternal, guiding them through various life experiences. Understanding these concepts can bring peace and enlightenment to one's life.
