Surprising Myself: Transformative Moments and Unlikely Achievements
Unlikely Achievements
Life is full of the unexpected. And sometimes, achieving goals that once seemed impossible can be the most rewarding experience. I can attest to that, having recently set a new record for myself in the gym. I initially struggled with even the basic movements, but now I'm proudly pushing 200 kg in the squat with 8 pancakes of 25 kg each. This is a far cry from where I started, and it's an achievement that I'm deeply proud of, especially as I turn 42 this year.
Another significant milestone was my 50 km cycle. While I've only cycled up to 10 km before, I tackled this alone and managed to complete it successfully. The feeling of accomplishment was unparalleled. It was a solo journey, but one that taught me the value of pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
Transformational Moments
Life is replete with moments that turn our beliefs upside down. When I was younger, I watched TV obsessively, a pattern that worried my parents. I was perfectly content with that habit, but over time, it merely diminished to the point of almost vanishing. Now, I hardly watch TV at all. Another major transformation came during my middle school days when I was overweight, a condition I feared would plague me my whole life. However, in just two years, I skeletoned, which was far more concerning than being overweight. Yet, both of these changes were snippets of a larger, more profound shift in my life.
Writing has always been a passion, one I initially thought would only be a hobby. However, it blossomed into something more. I've had a love for writing since I was 12, but never imagined it would materialize into a book. So, life, once again, surprised me with its potential.
Two Infamous Occasions
Some moments in life are worth celebrating. Here are two instances that left an indelible mark:
At 10 Years Old
Despite my aunt's urging to stay obedient and eat what she prepares, I decided to cook something myself one evening. I prepared fried rice, an omelette, and a dish with potatoes. Cooking everything on my own was a risk, but the end result was overwhelmingly positive. Even though the presentation was not to the taste, the flavors were just right. That day, I felt a surge of accomplishment that I had not expected.
At 13 Years Old
My journey with cycling is a tale of perseverance. I never rode a bicycle until I was 13, fearing it was too late. One day, while visiting a relative, my brother finally convinced me to try. Hoping for a smooth-like-a-“doodhwale ka cycle” ride, I mounted the bicycle. To my surprise, I managed to ride it effortlessly, maintaining control from the beginning to the end of the ride. It was an incredible feeling of achievement that I will never forget.
Life is a series of unexpected wins and losses. But it's during these surprising moments that we grow and learn. In the end, it's not about achieving the impossible, but about pushing ourselves to do more than what we think we can.
