Reflections on the Fruits of the Spirit: A Journey of Faith and Growth
As a Christian for over 70 years, and now 76 years old, I have a deep understanding of thefruits of the spirit. Through both experience and faith, I believe I manifest all of them in varying degrees, a testament to my commitment and spiritual growth.
The Fruit of Wisdom
Recent weeks have been incredibly peaceful for me. This peace is a stark contrast to my struggles with Bipolar/Mania for decades, where my only solace has been the teachings of Christ found in the Gospels. Christ's words have shown me that, while not easy, the process of repentance and perfection is worth the effort. The immediate rewards are immeasurable.
Gifts and Fruits: Growth through Spirit
It is true that gifts are bestowed upon us, but fruits are cultivated over time. Not all Christians manifest all the fruits of the spirit at once, but they are growing and maturing in them. Galatians 5:22-23 elucidates that these fruits are manifestations of love, and I believe I have all of them, varying in degrees and stages of maturity.
The Fruit of Love
Love is the ultimate fruit, encompassing all others. Without love, the other fruits would not exist. Love is the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, as described in (Galatians 5:22-26) where it lists love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These qualities all stem from love and are manifestations of the same.
Personal Experience
As mentioned in my personal testimony, the Holy Spirit has been a guiding force in my life since my baptism and my proclamation of faith. "Abba Father!", or Father, signifies my recognition of Jesus as my Lord and my Savior. Baptism with the Holy Spirit marked the lifting of my veil of darkness and an embrace of the Light.
The Power of Love
A fervent reminder of the power of love is found in 1 John 4:19, where it states: "We love because he first loved us." Additionally, 1 John 4:7-8 emphasizes that love is the ultimate sign of faith. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God, for God is love.
Commitment and Love
Further, John 15:16-19 solidifies the belief that love is at the core of our faith. Jesus chose me, appointed me, and asked me to produce fruit. This commitment to love and its manifestation is a guiding principle in my life. Jesus warned us that the world would hate us, but we are not of the world because we are chosen and loved by Him.
Conclusion
Through personal experience, faith, and biblical teachings, I see the fruits of the spirit in various aspects of my life. The wisdom and peace that I have found, the love that guides me, and the patience and steadfastness I display are all manifestations of the Holy Spirit's presence in my life. I am grateful for every stage of my spiritual journey and for the myriad blessings found in love alone.
