Preferred Surahs for Friday Subh: The Prophets Wisdom
Which Surah Did the Prophet Muhammad Prefer on Friday Subh?
The Holy Prophet Muhammad SAW placed great emphasis on the recitation of certain surahs on specific days for spiritual and protective benefits. Among these, Surah Al-Kahf stands out as a preferred recitation for the Friday subh (morning).
Reciting Surah Al-Kahf on Friday Subh
According to the hadith narrated by Abu Saeed Al-Khudri, the Prophet SAW stated:
"Whoever recites Surah Al-Kahf on Friday light will shine for him in the interval between that Friday and the next Friday." [Al-Bayhaqi and Hakim Al-Bani: Sahih].
This statement underscores the significance of reciting this surah on Fridays, as it is believed to bring blessings and protection over the following week.
Other Recitations
In addition to Surah Al-Kahf, other surahs are recommended for specific nights. For instance, the Prophet SAW also preferred to recite Surah Al-Zarrah on Thursday night.
Additional Benefits of Surah Al-Kahf
Not only does reciting Surah Al-Kahf bring light over the next week, but it is also believed that it protects one from the temptations of Dajjal, the false Messiah. This further emphasizes the importance of this surah in the life of a Muslim.
Surah Al-Asr: Spiritual Purification and Recitation
For spiritual purification and recitation, the Prophet SAW also encouraged the recitation of Surah Al-Asr. Here is the text of Surah Al-Asr:
Surah Al-Asr - Quran - Surah No. 103 - Ayah No. 1-5
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Prophet, glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High. Who created and proportioned, Who planned and gave due measure, Who set the day for its light And the night for resting it. We will surely make you read [the Quran], Then it shall not be forgotten, Except for what Allah wills; indeed, He knows what is visible and what is hidden. And to you We have granted clear recitation, So that they may receive admonition. Who fears will receive admonition, And the most wretched one [shall enter Hell] reluctantly. Entering it he will neither die nor live. Truly, successful is the one who purifies himself, And commemorates the name of his Lord and prays. But most of mankind you do not mention this [admonition].
This surah, though brief, is powerful in its message. It emphasizes the importance of purification, remembering Allah, and prayer. The Prophet SAW often recommended this surah as a means to attain spiritual success and purity.
The Significance of Recitation
Recitation, particularly on specific days, holds great significance in Islam. It is not merely for the sake of recitation but for the blessings and spiritual benefits that follow. The Prophet SAW placed great emphasis on these practices, and following his guidance can lead to a deeper connection with Allah and greater success in this life and the next.
