Life’s Journey: From Civil Engineering to the High-Speed Rail Revolution
Hey there,
I am Shubham Bhargava, a Civil Engineer from India, currently residing in Buchanan, West Africa. Today, I would like to share a little bit about my life journey, particularly focusing on my professional path in Civil Engineering and my journey into the world of high-speed rail technology.
Roots in Civil Engineering
My academic roots lie in Civil Engineering. Interestingly, I found myself in this field almost by accident. However, once I was immersed in the studies, I began to love it. During my academic journey, I took on numerous internships to get hands-on experience. My first major internship was during the conclusion of my undergraduate studies, at the Mumbai Metro project.
I remember the internship as a life-changing experience. Not only did I hone my technical skills, but I also developed essential communication, managerial, and professional skills. Upon my return to my college, I received both academic and administrative recognition from my batchmates and the Head of Department (HOD). I presented my work and received a lot of appreciation, especially considering how innovative the Mumbai Metro project was for India. Even today, it's remarkable to see how Delhi, Kolkata, and other modern metro systems are being developed by expatriates from around the world, innovating with cutting-edge technologies.
A Pivotal Turn: India’s First Bullet Train Project
After graduating, I was fortunate to continue with the same project in the Mumbai Metro, working for almost two years. During this period, I delved into every aspect of the project, whether it was within the scope of my work or not. I was determined to learn everything I could, and this approach helped me grow both technically and professionally.
Armed with the experience and knowledge gathered from the Mumbai Metro project, I joined India’s first bullet train project, utilizing the advanced Japanese Shinkansen technology. My primary focus was to learn and master these new technologies, which were unprecedented in India at that time. I was humbled and grateful to be given this opportunity by the Tata/NHSRCL consortium. This project introduced numerous new elements to India's infrastructure, including integrated systems, sophisticated signaling methods, and innovative design principles.
Sharing Knowledge on Quora
With my growing expertise, I started seeking answers to technical queries on Quora. One particular user, Akira Akiyama, became a significant inspiration for me. Not only did I receive valuable information, but this user also motivated me to share my own knowledge and present my doubts openly on the platform. Inspired by Akira's approach, I created a dedicated page on Quora named High Speed Rail in India, where I share insights into the technology and engineering behind the high-speed rail projects.
Through Quora, I have been able to connect with enthusiasts and professionals from around the world who are passionate about rail technology. These interactions have not only helped me deepen my understanding but also allowed me to contribute to the global conversation on high-speed rail innovations.
Conclusion
Tracing back to my roots, it's clear that my journey in Civil Engineering has been an exhilarating and dynamic one. From the Mumbai Metro to the India’s first bullet train project, each step has contributed to my professional growth and my passion for technology and innovation. Sharing my knowledge through platforms like Quora is a way for me to contribute to the ever-evolving landscape of the high-speed rail industry. I am excited to see where this journey will take me next!
