Heaven and Paradise: A Biblical Perspective
Heaven and Paradise: A Biblical Perspective
What does the Bible say about heaven and paradise? For many, heaven is a concept associated with religious activities and good works. However, the Bible's teachings suggest a different path to eternal life and spiritual fulfillment. Jesus, in his teachings, provides clarity on how we achieve a relationship with God and the future we can expect.
The Path to Heaven
What does Jesus teach? According to the Gospel of John, Chapter 3, Jesus emphasizes the need for a 'new birth' to enter the Kingdom of God. Religious rituals and good deeds, in his view, do not suffice. True salvation emanates not just from human efforts but from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
In John 3:1-8, Jesus clearly states the requirement for a new birth and a rebirth in spirit: ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the Kingdom of God. Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”
Contemporary Interpretation
Many are left with the impression that the Kingdom of God can be attained through religious activities or good works. However, Jesus clarifies that what is needed is a fundamental change in one's life: a complete surrender to Jesus Christ. He says, “Surrender your life to Jesus Christ alone. Confess your sins, repent of them, turn from sin, and accept Jesus Christ alone as your Lord and Savior to enter heaven.”
Salvation is about enjoying the liberation and authentic relationship with Jesus. The gospel is not hypocritical; it offers true and lasting freedom.
The 'Little Flock' and the Kingdom
The Bible also speaks about a 'little flock' of believers who will inherit the Kingdom of God. Based on Revelation 14:1-3, the number of this 'little flock' is exactly 144,000 men and women who have been chosen by God. The scales of the number 144,000 are from 12 tribes of Israel (12 x 12,000).
In Revelation 12:17, the writer states, “So it came about that on that day God has set apart a people for himself, a little flock, and they will rule with him over the earth.” This group will rule alongside Jesus Christ over the earth.
Finding Your Place in the Future
It is crucial to understand that the 'little flock' is not the only segment that will have a future. According to the Book of Revelation, the returning saints and all believers who have gone through the Tribulation and Armageddon will also share in the new age. 2 Peter 3:13 and Revelation 21:1-4 speak about those who will live on a restored paradise new earth.
Believers have a chance to live in an earth free from war, crime, poverty, corruption, sickness, old age, and death under the rule of Jesus Christ and the 144,000.
