Finding My Voice Through Poetry: A Journey of Self-Discovery and Expression

My journey with poetry began from a young age, nurtured by my father, who himself was a poet and a mentor. He introduced me to the works of Maya Angelou and through him, I fell in love with the art of poetry. My first poem, titled 'Art,' was written in my teenage years and sent off to a poetry contest. Although I didn't win, the experience was a profound one, igniting a passion for poetry that has lasted a lifetime. Today, my poetry books are set to be published online, reaching out to poetry enthusiasts worldwide.

Embracing Freshness and Deeper Understanding

Reading poetry requires a fresh perspective. A fresh mind can delve into the profound meanings and emotions within a poem. Whenever I feel low or sad, poetry is my refuge. It allows me to find solace in the heart and words of others, helping me overcome my emotions. Moreover, poetry enhances my oratory skills, allowing me to craft eloquent speeches that resonate with my audience.

A Personal Journey of Rediscovery

Some people might say I don't read poetry, but that simply isn't the case. I have my own reading routine, including my favorite books such as the Bible. There is nothing wrong with anyone’s choice in reading, and my personal preference is to study the Bible. However, my journey with poetry was not always smooth. There was a time when I found poetry stiff and old-fashioned, its rhyming and structured nature intimidating.

One particular book changed my perception of poetry. It turned out to be a collection of poems that were not only fun and whimsical but also relatable. This book showed me that poetry is not just a rigid art form but a canvas for creativity and emotion. It opened my eyes to the beauty of wordplay and the artistry that lies in every poem. From that moment on, my attitude towards poetry shifted.

Poetry as a Piece of Art

A poem is a unique piece of art, created from the heart. It is a beautiful expression of thoughts, emotions, and experiences. Just like any other form of art, poetry requires creativity and a new perspective. There is no one correct way to write a poem; it is about capturing the essence of one's inner world. I may not be a skilled poet myself, but I have learned that poems can be both structured and open-ended, making room for various styles and expressions.

Encouraging Creative Expression

To those who might find poetry daunting, my advice is to think outside the box. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles and forms. Poetry doesn’t need to be rigid; it can be free-form or even humorous. Pick up some books by poets like Dr. Seuss or other children's authors, and let their creativity inspire you.

Remember, the beauty of poetry lies in its flexibility and the ability to convey emotions through words. So go ahead, explore, and let your own creativity flow. As Dr. Seuss once said, 'Remember to be like a child at play; just remember there's no place like home.'

Embrace poetry, for it is not just a pastime but a profound way of self-expression. Let it inspire you, heal you, and help you find your voice.
