Exploring My Reading Style and Habits
When it comes to consuming books, my preferred method is undoubtedly bound paper. Unlike some digital formats or even certain genres that might require a more immersive approach, I find that physical books are the most satisfying and enriching.
Why Bound Paper?
I believe that bound paper books provide a substantive reading experience. Unlike a meal that's too chewy and high in fiber (an odd analogy, but you get the point), a book bound in paper is like a well-seasoned dish that can be savored in layers. My personal preference is to smother it in hot sauce – that is, to immerse myself fully in the story. However, I wouldn't recommend putting them on pineapple!
Reading for Absorption
The true test of a good book, in my opinion, lies in the depth of the experience. When time flows past as you're engrossed in a book, that's when you know it's a deeper read. It becomes a part of you, blending with your thoughts and emotions. Reading starts with a preference for topics that interest you. Starting with what you like can set a more engaging foundation.
Physical vs. Digital Reading
My method of reading involves passively absorbing details rather than deeply analyzing every word. Fiction, for me, is about the journey and the essence it conveys. I recommend highlighting or noting down meaningful lines on your device or in a notebook if the book is in digital form. Physically underlining in a physical book feels too invasive for me, and writing notes manually can be tedious.
Adapting to Different Genres
The nature of the book influences how I engage with it. For example, when I'm reading fiction, I immerse myself in the story, imagining myself in the circumstances. These books are not about the lessons they impart, but rather the journey and experiences they provide. For theory-related books, like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I strive to understand every word because the details are crucial. It's important to engage fully, whether it's to dip a toe in or dive in headfirst.
Final Thoughts
Reading is a personal experience, shaped by your interests, the genre of the book, and your reading habits. Whether you prefer the feel of paper in your hands or the convenience of digital formats, there's no right or wrong way. What matters is that you enjoy what you're reading, and that the book becomes a meaningful part of your life.
