Developing the Habit of Reading Tamil Novels: A Passionate Journey
Having the passion to read is the optimum way to evolve it. If you start to read the novels, it will tie up with you. I can provide a best example; I started to read Kalkis Ponniyin Selvan, a series consisting of five parts. I was so addicted to that novel. When I reached the last part, often I would reach home late for my office, but the climax part of the novel kept me so engrossed that I could not put the book down. Reading novels is the self-motivation process, and once you start, you will get the interest while reading.
My Personal Experience
I was in 7th standard and had No idea about Tamil novels. My grandma had the habit of reading lots of Tamil novels. One day, I saw an advertisement for a Tamil novel, and my mom bought a set of Kalki's works for me. The book during my summer vacation was a big book bearing the name ‘Ponniyin Selvan, which attracted me because of its colorful cover. I asked my grandma whether it would be good to read it, and she encouraged me. That was the first novel I had ever read. The words of Kalki attracted me more than the book cover.
Slowly, I became immersed in Ponniyin Selvan. I used to read it throughout the day, except for the time I spent on eating and sleeping. After about a month, I finished the book, and I realized that I had traveled back in time to the golden age of the Chola period. The greatest work of Kalki, especially this book, is that you don't need to have an innate interest in reading novels. Once you start to read two or three pages, you will automatically become interested. The book takes you on a journey through the ages, teaching you many interesting things and facts of life. It helps you realize the pride of Tamilians, the Cholas.
Getting Started with Tamil Novels
Not difficult as you think, my friend. The only thing you need is PATIENCE! Once you enter into the story, you can't stop reading. Tamil is the most addictive drug in the universe. If you are looking to cultivate a reading habit, start with Ponniyin Selvan. You can then move on to historical novels by Chandilyan or the works of Indira Soundar Rajan.
Conclusion
Reading Tamil novels is not just about passing the time; it's an enriching experience that can transport you through different eras, teach you valuable lessons, and ignite your passion for reading. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced reader, dive into the world of Tamil literature, and let the magic of Tamil novels take you on an incredible journey.
